Admissions Policy Admission to the British School of Guangzhou is selective. We are committed to ensuring that our pupils have access to the highest standards in education, and that also implies learning from other pupils as well as the classroom teacher. Skills in English and academic levels are evaluated for all applicants from Year 1 upwards, and we interview all students to get a holistic picture beyond just their academic level. We expect all students to contribute to school life outside of the classroom: sports, drama and music being areas at which BSG excels. Find below information relating to specific age groups applying to the school. |
Pre-Nursery (ages 2) For applications to Pre-Nursery, there is no minimum level of English required as English will be very quickly picked up at this early age through exposure and natural acquisition. However, an understanding is an advantage. To enter a Pre-Nursery class, children should be fully potty trained and free of nappies/diapers. After an application is received, an appointment will be made for parents to visit the school and for their child to be assessed by a member of our academic staff as ready or not to start school. Provided the assessment is satisfactory, a place will be offered. |
Nursery (age 3) When students are three, they join a Nursery class. As in the above Pre-Nursery application, the child must be free of nappies/diapers. There is a need for a basic understanding of English to be considered for a place in Nursery. This will be assessed by a member of our academic staff after an application is received. Provided the evaluation is satisfactory, a place will be offered. |
Reception Classes (age 4) When children are four, they join a Reception class. At this age there is a need for a more in depth understanding of English and academic ability may be considered. This will be assessed by a member of our academic staff after an application is received. Provided the evaluation is satisfactory, a place will be offered. |
