The British School of Guangzhou is an independent, British-run organisation established to provide high value education to the expatriate community of Guangzhou.

The school was established in 2005 in response to demand from the local international community at a time when no other school in Guangzhou was offering British education. Its principal aim continues to be the provision of exceptional educational based on the English National Curriculum.

The school is governed by a Board of Directors of The British Schools Group (See Our Group Section) that delegates powers for the day to day running of the school on the Head Teacher.

The British School of Guangzhou is a member of EAABIS (East Asian Association of British International Schools), FOBISSEA (Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia), an affiliate member of COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and a member of the British Schools Group. The British School of Guangzhou is registered at the Qualification and Curriculum Authority in the UK (Register number: 1880003) and is fully licensed by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Official Opening of the Upper School

Under our Head Teacher, Mr Mark Thomas, the school held the official opening ceremony for the upper school on November the 13th 2009. Almost three years exactly after the first opening, Mr Brian Davidson was the guest of honour who unvelied the plaque and declared the new upper school campus officially open.

New Secondary Wing

In addition to extensive renovation work to improve both our Lakeside and Nanhu campuses this year, the summer of 2010 saw the opening of a new Secondary wing with improved playground and sports facilities.

Additions include:

  • 2 Fully Equipped Science Laboratories
  • 1 Secondary ICT Suite
  • 1 Apple Mac Music Studio
  • 1 State-of-the-Art Art Studio with panoramic lake views
  • 8 Additional Secondary Classrooms
  • A Golf Driving Range and four hole practice green
  • Larger Football Pitch
  • Additional lunch facilities

These improvements, along with major plans for the coming years, follow the school's development plan helping to establish us as one of Asia's leading British international schools.
