Location

The British School of Guangzhou is located north of the city, 25 minutes drive from the centre (Tianhe) and commands spectacular views into Nanhu Lake and its green sorroundings. The school is in close proximity to prominent expatriate residential compounds, and operates 26 bus routes, designed to reduce the time students spend traveling to/from school.

Two Campuses

The school is housed in two buildings, only a few minutes walk from one another; catering for our Lower and Upper School students. Both offer modern, smart interior and exterior environments, with playgrounds and sports facilities that are age appropriate, safe and enjoyable. The facilities on offer match that of any top international school, not only in terms of quality, but also in how they enhance the education we provide.

Classrooms

All classrooms are generously resourced and equipped to meet English National Curriculum standards within the International school environment, making use of state-of-the-art technologies, such as Interactive White Boards (standard in all classrooms). Specialist classrooms include: three well equipped modern IT rooms, two fully fitted Music rooms with seven practice suites, a new dedicated newly refurbished Macintosh computer music studio room, a dance studio, two Libraries with four separate reading rooms, seven Chinese/ESL language rooms, two new secondary science laboratories and a newly designed three classroom interlinked art studio with panoramic views of Nanhu lake .

Playgrounds

The British School of Guangzhou has exceptionally well equipped playgrounds, combining a selection of climbing frames, hard-court and rubber surfaces and a clear differentiation between children of different ages.
The school also boasts a state-of-the-art indoor playground area for rainy days.

Sports Facilities

With over 22.000 m2 of open playground, students at BSG enjoy the use of a full sized gym, four age-appropiate basketball courts (one full sized indoor), three age appropriate football pitches, an infant's indoor football pitch, infant's gym area and use of a top class swimming pool complex with varying pool sizes and depths. 2010 saw the addition of a golf driving range and putting green, amongst other improvements, and 2011 will see the start of further extensions to sports and playground facilities, which will include the addition of a large playing field area for our growing secondary school.

Libraries

There is a huge reading culture at BSG. The campus has two exceptionally modern, well resourced libraries, covering a total area of over 500m2, with a wide selection of books and resources imported form the UK that grows each year. The Nanhu Library was completely refurbished last summer with the addition of a second floor, more areas for seating and lots more shelf space to allow for the continued planned growth.

As part of the ongoing development of the library, we also offer an extensive e-library service that includes the availability of banks of UK Kindle e-readers for our students to borrow, the addition of a Mac computer suite for research and internet projects and for younger students, the use of Ipads to encourage interactive reading and learning through a wide range of preloaded educational software. This is an area of the school that will continue to develop as new technologies mature as a compliment to our more traditional library services.

Theatre

The school is very proud of its new theatre, which is put to use regularly with all year groups participating in drama and the performing arts. The auditorium is equipped with state-of-the-art sound and video display systems and lighting which enables our students and parents to experience plays, music and drama events in an enjoyable and comfortable manner. We have recently added GCSE drama to our academic programme and have plans to add to the facilities available to the drama department.
